So today this place was referred to me this is not a 24 hour do not give this place your personal information about you or your child before you find out the hours they have to watch your child if you are newly signing up. They took all my child information like insurance doctor office all that then said they did not have the staff I first called at 10am intake was at 6 pm this place is a blessing but if you work more then 8 hours they can not do weekends they do not have staff they only help with daycare some days not everyday. I think the community should come together to help so the daycare care get back to 24 hours if I lived here I would volunteer for free it is nice they give free day care when they can.i needed temporary are and they took me right in that was nice the hours did not match my work hours. Staff was very nice and friendly open and understanding.

I'm finally able to go to the doctor and have everything checked out because of this center. The staff is very caring and personable, and Kayla is especially good with my 3 year old son. I've always experienced professionalism while dealing with them on the phone and in person, and they are always eager to accommodate me. Thank you so much for helping me to attend to my health needs that I have put off for so long for the very reason that I cannot afford childcare (at the moment). A real God send.

To begin, the major theme that has been most bothersome has been the lack of support specifically for weekend staff. The difference in availability of admin support makes weekday shifts feel much more organized and supportive and much less stressful for staff who are facing parents throughout the day. Weekend has to answer admission and discharge questions, field calls, and provide resources to families often without having the appropriate information to handle these situations at our disposal. When we have asked to have these resources provided, the admin has told us that they have access to them and can provide them to the parents— but how is this possible when there is no admin available to weekend staff? Moreover, without being able to rely on admin we have to respond to instances of DV, ChildLine reports, and mothers begging for care as they’ve been evicted. We have no guidance on how to answer these calls beforehand, and no form of flow chart, response guide, or training has been provided upon request. On-call supervisors are often hard to reach. There have been many instances where we have had to call each administrator on our list to get any response. If no admin will be in the building, please ensure that they can be reached by phone call and are not actively attending another event or dealing with additional family matters.
Communication as a whole is lacking within the organization of Jeremiah’s Place. As a weekend worker, I have rarely seen or heard from administrators unless I have reached out to them with a concern. The issues were made extremely clear when I was asked to complete six hours of professional development in two weeks, knowing that I was student teaching and in graduate school for the five days I wasn’t at JP. In recent months, emails have been shifted to mass messages to the entire team instead of monthly check-ins with your staff. This is especially detrimental to those who cannot attend regular staff developments or who do not actively see admin weekly. Although many issues have arisen and many concerns have been raised about weekend admin communication, it seems as though nothing has changed. We currently have no admin that we are seeing on-site regularly, and it has been that way for the entirety of my time here.
The lack of support and communication that we receive at Jeremiah’s Place added to the constant burn-out from the demand of our position, widely undesirable shift hours, second-hand trauma, and pay that is both uncompetitive with other daycares and non-reflective of the trauma-informed focus makes the work feel far less rewarding. We love the work we do; that’s why we’re here helping families for such low pay. I should feel more confident in my effect at JP and appreciation from my administration through appropriate raises. Bonuses are nice for your highest-clocking staff, but working two years for a $1 raise to make $14.65 when other traditional daycares start at $17-19 an hour feels like I’m not seen as a valuable member of the team.
I have also heard about some wildly disturbing comments that were made by a board member at our Helping Hands Fundraiser. Our location was referred to as "in the trenches;" a statement that feels racist and classist at its core. We are here to help families in need in communities like those we reside in. There is absolutely no space in my eyes for anyone speaking hateful comments about the communities we serve, in front of the families we serve. This added to the mishandling of comments made by staff in the past has made me question whether or not Jeremiah's Place is living the mission vision it claims to hold.

This place is a godsend, I am effectively a single parent throughout the week while my child’s father works outside of the city, we have no family support in the area, and I am a full time nursing student. When something comes up and our normal care lapses they always do their best to find as a solution. I will say right now, like almost every childcare facility, they are understaffed. I would suggest always calling at minimum 24 hours in advance (sometimes this is not possible, but if you can you should), and if you do not hear back reaching out again because these workers are doing the jobs of multiple people in order to keep the center operating. The people there are always so kind to my daughter and myself
