We have used Mini Scholars since pre-k 3 and LOVE it. The other reviewers aren't wrong in their reviews. However, I think they're common concerns at any daycare/after-school care. So, I wanted to offer my review as a well-established customer.
We've been at Mini Scholars now going on 4 years.
*they offer extended pick-up/drop-off times
*my daughter was very well prepared in time management, structure, and content for starting Kindergarten after attending pre-k 3 and pre-k 4.
*she learned amazing social skills from one of our favorite teachers, Ms. Carrie
*she has had access to LARGE outdoor play areas, plus the amazing big kid indoor play area(hence many bruises, bumps, scrapes, and accidents). As a mom and a nurse, accidents and bruises happen. My daughter is clumsy. Some weeks she has Oops reports sent home daily because she simply fell off a piece of equipment. They always give her ice, a bandaid and hugs. In fact, it's helped at home because ice now fixes everything. For major things, a lot Of bleeding, major head hits, etc.. They have always called me. Yes, unexplained bruising should be investigated. One day I picked her up and she had a bruise on her forehead. I simply went to her teacher, "hey I didn't get an oops report, what's this?" her teacher explained that she missed the water fountain and tripped getting water. My daughter confirmed this is what happened. Don't be naive because children should be protected, but be understanding... Kids are kids and when offered a really large play area compared to most around many other kids... Accidents will happen.
*most teachers I have seen demonstrate exceptional
patience. I can barely stand being around 8 kids at once for 4 minutes much less 12+ kids every day, all day. I try to be understanding anywhere childcare is provided. They're heroes for dealing with kids like that.
*my daughter is less of a picky eater because of this place. She loved the lunches that were provided and it helped her enjoy similar things at home, too.
*they're communication with parents and between teachers is great. They always call if I send someone they don't know to pickup my daughter and I forgot to tell them. And likewise, when I do call about someone else picking her up, they've communicated that to the ones who should know.
*their rates are fair. Childcare anywhere is expensive. Their rates are competitive considering quality and comparison to others. Yes, you pay whether they attend or don't. Most any place you pay for childcare is going to make you pay whether you attend or not. You aren't paying for the week of being watched... You're paying for an available spot per week. A guaranteed spot so you can take your child. I've found very few childcares that don't make you pay regardless of attendance. I'm afraid if they didn't do this, they'd treat it as a "first come, first serve" and childcare would be even harder to find. I appreciate the guaranteed spot.
*the biggest thing for me to convey to anyone is that my daughter LOVES it. She doesn't cry about going. She's made good friends. She feels her teachers love her and she loves the amenities, especially the summer program!
If you're looking here for childcare, you're considering a great option!!

Nice staff and lots of fun stuff for the kids to play on but some pretty unfair policies as far as price. Even if your kids don't go during a week you have to pay the normal rate. They also don't provide multi-child discount and they are really expensive. 2 kids there during the summer is over $1000 a month.
