Winton Road Nursery School

Winton Road Nursery School is a shining gem in the world of early childhood education in Rochester. Its play-based approach, dedicated educators, and commitment to fostering a love of learning through play make it an wonderful choice for parents searching for a loving community for their child's first school experience. All three of my children attended WRNS, and it created a solid foundation for their future success in elementary school and beyond. They made lasting friendships, and so did their parents! We loved the school grounds, where the kids take nature walks, climb hills, and sled. We also appreciated the format of the school day, where the kids were given some free time to move through different classrooms to foster exploration and creativity. Can't say enough good things about WRNS! It holds a very special place in my heart.

We have been a part of WRNS for two years. My son started in the 2-day Big Nursery program as a recently turned 3-year-old in 2022 and now participates in the 5-day Big Nusery program. My son has truly blossomed during his time at WRNS! He loves going to school to see his friends and teachers, and loves to tell us about the funny things that happen each day and the activities he did. The teachers are absolutely wonderful! Early last year, Mrs. Colon recognized a bit of apprehension from my son in the mornings and always greeted him right away to make him feel welcomed and comfortable. This year, I watch my son enthusiastically tell Mrs. Dwyer and Ms. Schwarz all about his weekend each Monday morning. We have had such a great experience and plan to start our younger son in the young nursery class when he turns 2. Highly recommend!

We have been a part of WRNS for about 3 months now. I was apprehensive about sending my 2.5 year old son as he had just been home or at his grandparents since he was born but I wanted to give him an opportunity to get consistent exposure to other kids his age and a school setting in a manageable way. We have had a great experience since starting in the young nursery class! The teachers are well-versed in getting young children acclimated to a new setting and provide support and structure in a child-centered way. I love that it is play-based and my son (who is pretty timid) loves going now and often talks about his friends in his class and all of the fun activities he does at school. Highly recommend if you are looking for a good stepping stone for young children!

Winton Road Nursery School is the most wonderful school. All three of my children attended and had great experiences. The play-based style of the school and the lovely, caring and creative staff set Winton apart. My kids are in elementary school now and I miss the staff and families at Winton Road!

Absolutely amazing preschool! The teachers are second to none - caring, supportive, and personable. I started my son in the Young Nursery program right when he turned 2. While outgoing, he had a lot of separation anxiety. Every other school I toured had a "drop and go" mentality and would not allow me to come into the classroom at all. WRNS was totally different. Their philosophy is that a child's first experience of school should feel safe and welcoming, not scary. I was able to stay with my son until he was comfortable and ready to be on his own. It made such a difference! Being in the classroom, I got to know the teachers and learned so much about parenting as well as my son's capabilities. I also met many wonderful parents who I've become friends with and see all the time. WRNS truly values children and understands their needs. My son has continued on through the Big Nursery program and it's been such a great experience for him and our family. Highly recommend!
